Ludovic Mathon Morgon Les Grands Cras 2013 (750ml)
2013 cru Beaujolais are really wowing us with their savory tannins, soil transparency and terroir definition. As Morgon is one of Beaujolais’ most famous and expensive crus, we’re delighted to present this classic and affordable example from one of the appellation’s up-and-coming talents. The soils of the Grands-Cras consist of clay, schist and shale, making for one of Morgon’s boldest wines. A bright ruby in the glass, Mathon’s Morgon opens with aromas of cherry skin, violet and smoky schistose soil. Bright and spicy on the palate, the Grands-Cras reveals plentiful, food-friendly tannins alongside suggestions of black cherries, game and bitter herbs. Crisp, clean and totally satisfying, the wine finishes with latent notes of dried rose petals, cinnamon, menthol and perfumed soil. Pair now and over the coming five years with roast chicken, pan-seared pork chops, and dishes featuring fresh porcini mushrooms.
